Good morning. It's three minutes after 10 and I hope I find you well. About five past 11 today,

we're expecting the Prime Minister Liz Trust to give her first speech as leader to the Conservative Party conference.

And I'm told it's going to last about 25 minutes, which is, I mean, under half of what you might ordinarily expect at a time like this.

Make of that what you will.

An awful lot of damage done in the month since she became Prime Minister. I mean, incredible

amounts of damage done, both to the country, although that is fixable, thanks to the intervention

of the Bank of England chiefly, and course to the party and most pertinently

perhaps to her leadership it is increasingly hard to see how she survives possibly even until

Christmas but that's what we concerned ourselves with yesterday morning we'll take it live

obviously in its entirety and then take a view at the end on what we're going to do next

if you fancy a post-mortem picking over the bones of whatever it is

that she comes out with, then we can do that. It may well be that that is the direction in which we head.

But I want to begin with something that actually breaks my heart. Something that I can't quite

believe has been ushered into the mainstream of British political discourse, something that I can't quite believe has been ushered into the mainstream of British

political discourse, something that is, I suppose, a consequence of treating people like

Nigel Farage as if they had anything valid or decent to contribute to our country, that weaponisation

of refugees and asylum seekers and immigrants in general

that has polluted pretty much every corner of this country over the last decade and particularly,

of course, around that Brexit vote. It's not a word I use often anymore because it's a personal thing and it comes

and goes and it is often deployed by hypocrites and liars. But this is still ostensibly a Christian

country. When King Charles is crowned, it will be as part of the head of the Church of England, a

Christian, a branch of the Christian faith. And what Jesus had to say about decency and kindness
