Liz Trass, the country's second Prime Minister this year, has resigned after just 45 days in office.

We've agreed that there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.

So, Graham Brady has confirmed that there will be a new leader of the Conservative Party by Friday 28th October.

But in the middle of an economic crisis, can the Conservative Party find a leader that will unify the party and be accepted by the country?

The Prime Minister, however, has resigned. Liz Trass today announced her position was no longer

tenable after a chaotic seven days, which saw her sack her Chancellor and her Secretary U-Turn

on her flagship economic policy and lose the confidence of her MPs.

I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability.

Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills.

Putin's illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our whole continent.

And our country has been held back for too long by low economic growth.

I was elected by the Conservative Party with a mandate to change this.

We delivered on energy bills, on on cutting national insurance.

And we set out a vision for a low tax, high-growth economy that would take advantage of the
