Last November, Melanie and John Haring set off on what was supposed to be a six-month retirement trip through Asia.

But halfway through, the coronavirus outbreak began.

On February 6, one of the thousands of people who'd been on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship with them tested positive for the virus.

And the entire ship was put into quarantine.

We got to Yilkahama, Japan.

The day we were supposed to get off, they told us to stay on our cabins.

They were going to quarantine us.

They gave us the monitors.

Everybody on the cruise ship got a thermometer.

We were supposed to take our temperature.

And we were like little kids with a thermometer.

So every half hour, we're like, oh, I think my temperature

a few days into the quarantine, John started to feel sick.

We had headache.
