Summary

Those of you who have listened to some of our earlier episodes at ABG know that I have switched careers many times. I started out at one of the Big 4s working in global transfer pricing, then in social enterprise, before switching to strategy in advertising, and finally landing in UX design before going full time on ABG. However, between my stint in Advertising and my time in UX design, I actually spent about half a year in Chinese Medicine School. If you’re curious about how and why I did this, what the experience was like, and what I learned, listen in! __________________________________________ Host: Janet Wang Editor: Victoria Cheng __________________________________________ P A R T N E R S • Modern Fertility: Get $20 off a test by visiting ModernFertility.com/ABG __________________________________________ C O N N E C T W I T H U S • Subscribe and Follow us @asianbossgirl on Apple Podcasts/Spotify/YouTube/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook • Listener Survey: Let us know your thoughts on the podcast here • Shoutouts: Give a shoutout on the podcast here • Email: hello@asianbossgirl.com __________________________________________ S U P P O R T U S • Merch: asianbossgirl.myshopify.com • Donate: anchor.fm/asianbossgirl/support • More about us at asianbossgirl.com Learn more about your ad choices. Those of you who have listened to some of our earlier episodes at ABG know that I have switched

0:31.6

careers many, many times. I first started out at one of the big fours working in global

0:37.6

transfer pricing. Then I worked in social enterprise before switching to strategy and advertising

0:43.1

and finally landing in UX design before changing, once again, to go in full-time in ABG.

0:49.2

But between my stint in advertising and my time in UX design, I actually spent a bit of time

0:54.0

in a different sector that I don't talk that much about. I spent about half a year in Chinese medicine

1:00.3

school. Now, I know that one seems way out from left field compared to the other industries

1:05.6

that I switched between, and before I get into how and why I did that, what the experience was

1:11.3

like and what I learned, I want to share with you a quote to think about. This quote comes from

1:16.2

the Yellow Embrors Classic of Internal Medicine, which is a pretty well-referenced text in traditional

1:21.3

Chinese medicine. To fight a disease after it has occurred is like trying to dig a well when one

1:27.2

is thirsty, or forging a weapon once a war has already begun. I'm curious to hear what you think

1:34.6

of that quote, how you interpret it. If you have thoughts, please leave them in the comments of

1:39.0

our Instagram post. So how did my interest in Chinese medicine even develop? Well, I've shared

1:44.4

in earlier episodes that kind of in parallel with all of my career transitions, I started taking a

1:50.4

deeper interest in my own physical health and well-being through tools like food and exercise,

1:56.2

which meant that I also started reading a lot and researching nutrition and other practices to

2:02.0

maintain health and prevent disease. During these years, I also observed my mom become very proactive

2:08.4

in managing her own health, as she transitioned from her 50s into her 60s and health became really

2:14.2

something that was a focus to preserve. And as someone who was raised in Taiwan by parents who
