Summary

Journalist Rupa Jha travels to her own state of Bihar, where nearly 10% of the population now live, and who face many of the issues confronting the average citizen. In part two Dalit student Sunil hopes his exam results will help lift his entire family out of poverty.

I'm continuing my journey to give you a taste of what it means to live in India today.

Viewed through the eyes of four local residents we've been following for a year.

They come from a variety of backgrounds, poor and better off, urban and rural,

lower and upper caste.

And for me, their daily lives and challenges provide a window on some of the many reasons

why India still punches well below its weight on the world stage.

There's Sunil, a student from a very poor low caste background.

He's been studying hard to pass his exams,

get into a prestigious college of higher education,

and find a way out of poverty for his entire family.

I'm desperately waiting for the results of my exams.

I have done so much hard work.
