Professor Butler describes this moment as a restoration,

a restoration of an imagined past.

And in this imagined past, all people with uteruses were women,

all women were wives, all wives were mother.

Now, of course, that's racialized, right?

Because black people with uteruses have never had the luxury of just being

wives and mothers.

of black culture that we rarely discuss in mixed company. On June 24th, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Since that day, Americans across the country have been mobilized to defend access to abortion,

while also urging politicians to codify access to not just abortion, but privacy.

At the center of this debate has been UC Berkeley law professor Kiara Bridges, who spoke at the Senate hearing after the decision was made.

Eric and I brought Professor Bridges on the show to talk about what's at stake for black communities with this ruling,

how the right to privacy has always been tenuous for marginalized communities, and what folks can do on their own time to stay informed.
