I'm sharing 10 of our favorite books for students in grades 1 through 4, who are studying

early modern history, about 1550 through 1850.

You might recognize some of these titles.

Others might be new to you, but rest assured they're all wonderful living books that will

make the time period come alive in your students' imagination.

Welcome to the Simply Charlotte Mason podcast. I'm Sonia Schaefer. I'll be reviewing books related to both American history and world history. These are the books used

in our history curriculum, a pageant of history early modern. The lessons synchronize them

together in chronological order so your students will get a seamless flow of that time period

as events happened in America and around the world.

Those lessons also provide a reading schedule and narration prompts for these titles.

Now keep in mind that these books are meant to be read aloud to your elementary students.

Even if your younger students cannot yet read fluently for themselves, they can still understand

well-written books read aloud to them.

And here are some of our favorites for grades 1 through 4.

First, A Lion to Guard Us by Clyde Robert Bula.

This is a great historical fiction story based on true incidents.

Be sure to read the historical note at the end of the book.

I won't tell you what it says. No spoilers, but be sure to read it.
