One of the most difficult things we face in the Christian life is learning how to live

a consistent Christian life, and that's what I want us to talk about today. So if you'll turn

to Ephesians chapter 4, I want us to read beginning in verses 17 and through verse 24. How do you

get this roller coaster attitude out of your Christian life?

So Paul begins in verse 17 by saying,

This I say, therefore, and affirm together with the Lord,

that you walk no longer as the Gentiles or the unbelievers walk,

in the futility or the emptiness,

the purposelessness of their mind, being darkened in their understanding. They don't understand the truth, excluded from the life of God. They're dead in their spirit to the life of God.

Because of the ignorance that's in them,

because of the hardness of their heart, and they, having become calloused,

have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.

Now, there's a very important principle in that verse. Look,

having become calloused, that means doing the same old thing over and over and over again

until you become insensitive to the spirit. Then you give yourselves over the sensuality

for the practice of every kind of impurity and greediness, then you are in

bondage and imprisoned to that habit. But he said, you didn't learn Christ in this way.

If indeed you have heard him and have been taught in him just as truth is in Jesus.

That, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self,

that is who you were before you were saved, which is being corrupted in accordance with the
