Summary

This video unravels the life and times of Az Zubayr Ibn Al Awwam RA and how he was an indispensable part of Islam in an enthralling talk by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi. Zubayr ibn Awwam father’s name was al-Awwam and his mother was Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib who was the aunt of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Hence, he was also the cousin of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He had another relation where he was the blessed nephew of Khadījah RA. In another way,he was also the husband of Asma who was the daughter of Abu Bakr as-Siddique RA. his two prominent sons who find a place in the history of Islam are - Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr and Urwah ibn Zubayr. Zubayr ibn `Awwam ibn Khuwaylid ibn Asad ibn `Abd al-`Uzza ibn Qusayy RA is credited with the nickname “The Disciple” of the Prophet ﷺ. He played magnanimous roles in the different battles prominent in Islam such as the battle of Badr, the battle of Uhud, battle of the Trench, battle of Yarmuk and so many more. He has to his valiant credentials the glory of never having missed a campaign or battle that was led by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was an embodiment of honesty, trustworthiness and self-sacrifice. Az-Zubair bin al-Awwam RA was the blessed companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and was among the early people who had accepted Islam as their religion. As is well known, he also had the bliss of being amongst the Ashara Mubashara. He has the privilege of honour to unsheathe the sword in the path of Allah for the first time. A famous narration certifies this fact and has been explicitly covered by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi. One of the numerous Hadiths that have been discussed in the above talk and that which illustrate the stature of this great Sahabi is elucidated in the following narration: In the battle of Badr, the Prophet ﷺ said on seeing a yellow turban tied around the head of  Az-Zubayr Ibn Al-Awwam “Verily, the angels [also] came down from heaven [to assist the believers] in the appearance of Az-Zubayr”. We are acquainted with details on his death and how it was the most tragic events that transpired at the time. When Zubayr ibn al-Awwam left the Battle of the Camel in the initial rounds and was returning, he encountered Amr ibn Jurmuz and in a lowly level of deceit was stabbed and killed by him.
