So today in sha Allahhah in light of the fact that we have a shorter class and also

next Wednesday as you know we're having our Ifthar session or Ifthar over here so we're gonna have a very short

khatira. What I'm gonna do is I wanted to give this talk actually from the beginning

and it's a good talk to give now before we move on and that is our beliefs regarding the Sahaba.

This is a point of history, a point of theology, a fundamental point of who we are as Sunni Muslims, right?

The point being that why do we as Sunni Muslims respect the companions the way that we do.

So today's lecture is actually an introduction to the whole topic of the companions.

And it should have been done when we started Abu Bakr al-Sadir,

but I think it's a perfect time now because we'll be

pausing for a while. So we begin by talking about who exactly is a sahabi, who exactly is a sahabi,

what is the definition of a Sahabi?

And in fact, in early Islam, this was a point of some controversy,

that who exactly gets defined to be a companion?

For example, one of the early Tabiroon, Saeeda Mille Musayya, he was one of the students of the

Sahaba, he said we only consider a Sahabi somebody who lived with the

prophet-sossa-som for at least a year or two. somebody who lived with the prophecy

for at least a year or two.

And he participated with the prophet system in at least one or two battles.

Now, why would somebody make this definition?

Because you see, when we talk about the Sahaba, Now why would somebody make this definition?
