Hello and welcome to Liverpool's WSL Review Show. I've got Neil Atkinson, the BBC's Emma Sanders,

0:04.4

after a very busy week, thank you for joining us and John Gibbons alongside me to talk through all

0:09.2

the highs and lows of Liverpool season, their fair season back in the WSL and Emma. Let's start

0:14.6

at the start because the Chelsea game on the opening day, it felt like really should have set the

0:18.9

tone for the rest of the season and the first half of the season didn't really transpire that way, but

0:22.9

it was an early sign that they could compete at this level and an early positive sign that

0:27.2

they were going to be involved in every game and really fighting every game and that's exactly

0:30.9

what Matt Beard was hoping for. Yeah, 100%. I never really doubted that they wouldn't be able

0:36.1

to compete in the league. I thought they were going to be fine. I wasn't ever really too worried

0:40.5

about kind of fighting off renegation, but I definitely didn't see them beat in Chelsea on the opening

0:47.4

weekend of the season. So yeah, for sure, I think it was a real shot for everyone. It definitely

0:52.4

put down a bit of a marker to say that we're not here. We're not not pushovers. We're here to compete

0:58.1

and yeah, I think they caused Chelsea some real problems. And the best thing about it wasn't

1:03.2

it wasn't just a sit back and just see whether we can get a corner or a nico goal on a set piece.

1:08.4

Liverpool were creating chances and they were causing problems for Chelsea as well. So they'll

1:12.5

get the wrong Chelsea created chances as well. They always will. But I think the way that Liverpool

1:17.7

played out that opening game was a perfection really. And I think it showed the heights that

1:23.0

they could reach. And I think they did reach in patches throughout the season. But yeah, it was

1:29.0

the perfect start really, wasn't it? Yeah, Neil, Emma mentioned the patches there and you have

1:33.1

to look back at the kind of patch after that game where there was defeats to Everton, Tottenham,

1:37.5

Arsenal, Man City and there. Matt Beard was speaking after the season. He did a bit of review and

1:42.3

he said we've had lots of up and down over the course of the year and we had a tough start.
