Summary

Despite a fantastic start to the season, Liverpool once again find themselves with a conundrum given the number of injuries they have in midfield. It is not yet a crisis, with only Harvey Elliott deemed a long term casualty, but Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Brighton was a symptom of the centre of the pitch lacking in legs. That poses the question, after Liverpool were drawn at home to Leicester in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, of whether the Reds should be keen to avoid reaching the semi-finals, which are now a two-legged affair once again. With AFCON to consider as well, what is Liverpool’s best option? To sacrifice this competition in order to keep the team fresh for bigger battles? Or should a club of Liverpool’s stature always aim to conquer all before them? Mo Stewart is joined by James Martin and Emmet Gates to come up with an answer. Enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. deep brief but us here at Liverpool.com we're going to wind the clock back to midweek and

the consequences of that victory over Preston in the League Cup.

0:44.7

That leaves us in the quarterfinals of that particular competition with a home tie against

0:50.0

Leicester, win that and we are three games away from a trophy. A trophy we're yet to win under Yergen clock and a

0:57.1

trophy that Liverpool is a football club have won more than anyone else. But should we really care? If you look at December, we all know that's already

1:05.7

going to be packed. Winning this game with two-legged semi-finals back in play means we're going to

1:10.9

have a pack January as well, a time we're going to be missing our

1:14.8

African trio of Nabikator, Saudi Omani and Mohammed Sala.

1:19.0

So the question I'm putting to these two is, the League Cup. what is it good for now James I resisted the

1:26.2

spot a huh in the middle of there but you know what I'm talking about here it's a

1:31.1

question that we do find ourselves asking quite regularly.

1:34.6

And whenever a team seems to be in a little bit of trouble, either form or injury,

1:39.0

the League Cup always seems to be the first one to be sacrificed but I still find it hard trying to

1:45.2

envisage a award where I want Liverpool to not win a game so where do you stand

1:50.3

on it? Yeah I mean absolutely nothing would be a bit of a harsh response in this.
