Liverpool fell to a fourth successive defeat for the first time in 11 years as Manchester United claimed a late win at Anfield on Sunday. The Reds fell behind in controversial circumstances early on after Bryan Mbeumo scored despite Alexis Mac Allister suffering a head injury in the build-up. Arne Slot's side fought back and saw Cody Gakpo hit the woodwork three times, while they also had a penalty appeal waved away for handball, before the Dutchman equalised late on by converting Federico Chiesa's low cross. But Harry Maguire then headed home Bruno Fernandes' cross to clinch a first win at Anfield since 2016 for United. And with Liverpool falling to a third late defeat in a row in the Premier League, they have now dropped down to fourth in the table. Though they created a lot of chances in the second half in particular, it just didn't work for them.

0:45.3

They fell behind early on in really controversial circumstances.

And Buemo goes on to score the opening goal inside a minute and a half, runs through on goal, puts it past Mammardashfully. McAllis is still on the floor. It ended up having to play most of the game with basically a swimming cap, a rugby helmet sort of thing on his head after receiving treatment there. But the head injury didn't stop play. Referee Michael Oliver said play could carry on. I think the claim is he didn't know that McAllister was down injured. Make that what you will. If you look at the footage, he does seem to be looking straight at him, but I believe that's what the Premier League have said on the match centre, that he didn't stop the game because he wasn't aware that McAllister was injured. So it's a conjurial one. I'm sure there'll be plenty of fallout on that in the days to come. Liverpool created plenty of chances after that. We've seen Cody Gapho hit the post three times. Mohamed Salah missed a sitter. Cody Gapot missed his hitter. Lamans and the United goal made plenty of saves. And it took until, what, a 78th minute for Liverpool to get their equaliser. It does come from Gapo. It's a deserved one as well. Kiezer, who's come off the bench, lively cameo from him again, gets another goal contribution, sends in a low cross, and there's Gapot for it, a tapping. But just as you think think Liverpool could get a late winner, they're still knocking at the door, they're still pushing forward, yet Liverpool concede a late winner themselves. Once again, that's what, third Premier League game in a row, and it's Harry Maguire. He gets on the end of Bruno Fernandez's cross, wins it for United right at the death. It's a bitter pill for Liverpool, and you've got to wonder what do they do now to turn around the form because they're creating chances, but there's

not the control we saw from them last season when they were Premier League champions storming game

after game after game. A bit better offensively today, Cody Gapro was much improved. Sal was

more involved at times, drifted out the game, got substituted the late on.

Obviously he misses it a big chance, I think it was from a Gapot cross to the far post, or maybe a Kirkus cross either way.

2:43.0

He's there at the far post, he brings it down, and he sends it wider the near post for him at that moment.
