Ezekiel chapter 33, verses 7 through 9.

So you, son of man, I've made a watchman for the House of Israel.

Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.

If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak

to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity. But his

blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does

not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have

delivered your soul.

Oh, what a powerful picture.

And we've referenced this at different points because this is familiar imagery that we

see in the Bible, this depiction, specifically here of Ezekiel as a watchman for the House of Israel, someone who is looking

out for their good, who is watching out for danger that is coming and warning the people

when danger is coming. And that's the watchman's responsibility. If the watchman sees danger

coming and says nothing, then they are accountable for what happens to those people in a very real sense.

Now, obviously, the picture here is spiritual warning. Spiritual judgment is coming.

And God makes clear that people who experience his judgment will do so because of their own sin.

The language here is clear. The wicked person shall die in his iniquity.

But God says, His blood I will require at your hand. So there is absolutely a sense of accountability for someone who knows judgment is coming, but stays silent with that news.

Did you hear that? There is before God a somber, serious accountability that we have. We who know that judgment is coming, we who know

that the penalty for sin is death, eternal death, everlasting suffering, that we who know this

have a responsibility before God and before others to tell people it's coming. So God help us
