So, from an introduction full to the brim with disclaimers about how Pip isn’t a comedian and how this is a podcast where the guest is the audience, said audience eventually loosens up and gets into the program and then we have a proper show on our hands, people! A nice selection of participants and topics, from the light hearted to the slightly more poignant and pertinent, but all the while a really cool and intimate live show which you’ll surely enjoy. Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is the distraction pieces podcast episode 209.

0:05.8

Thank you for tuning in. Huge reaction last week to episode 208 with Martin Freeman.

0:12.5

Thank you for all the love. I had about over a hundred, at least a couple of hundred I'd say, responses.

0:22.0

Already positive. I had two people who would disappoint it. It was as short as it was.

0:27.8

But man, that's that's decent odds. I like how that works. Yeah, so thank you for all the love.

0:34.4

I'm glad you all enjoyed it. Let's get straight to the elephant in the room.

0:39.4

At the end of last week's podcast and on social media, I said that this week it would be a drunk cast.

0:47.4

And it's not. This week is a fantastic episode. It was recorded two Sundays ago at the world's comedy festival.

0:56.4

It's one of the best love ones I've done. There's some magic. There's a great chat with a social worker, a chat with a teacher at the end.

1:06.4

All really good stuff. But we recorded a drunk cast last Wednesday. And we added Justin, who's a friend of shoes has been on hardcore list in a couple of times.

1:22.4

And Justin on his first time, nerves, got a little bit too drunk too quick.

1:30.4

And what we recorded over three episodes, we all discussed the next day we felt was un-un-un-un-un-releasable.

1:40.4

It was good fun. But there was, we all got a bit carried away. And there it was essentially incredibly offensive in places.

1:50.4

Now people go on and on all the time about censorship and freedom of speech and stuff like that.

1:58.4

Self-sensorship is perfectly acceptable if it's your choice. And that was the case here. We all kind of had a chat.

2:06.4

And we're like, yeah, no, we were a bit far in places. You know when you have a laugh with your mates, have a drink.

2:14.4

And people can get offensive. We're all fans of offensive comedy. And what I think happened here was there was points where we had the offensive bit, but not necessarily the comedy bit.

2:26.4

And we just felt it wasn't a proud moment for any of us. And it wasn't something that was going to actually benefit the tens of thousands of distraction pieces listeners.

2:40.4

So we iced that one and decided not to release it. I'm sorry about that. It's, I mean, it's an interesting debate at the moment on censorship anyway.

2:51.4

A lot of people get angry. We spoke about this a bit on the drunk aspect. And a lot of people get angry about Rose M. Barr having her show cancelled because of some racist tweets and people saying that that's against freedom of speech. And they're wrong.

3:07.4

It's not against freedom speech. There's a big mistake that freedom speech is the same as freedom from consequence. That isn't the case.

3:15.4

I'm a big believer in people can say what they want, but there can be consequences. I'm going to go into this a little bit more, more right now.
