If you're in the television business, you want to be on the air when something is happening live, when news is breaking.

And that's exactly what happened to me last night.

I was on special report when word came and there had been rumors all day that James Comey, former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, had been indicted.

Now, it seemed evident to anybody following the case that he was going to be indicted, you know, perhaps yesterday, perhaps today, perhaps on Monday.

They were facing a statute of limitations deadline.

But fragmentary information was coming in about the way this happened.

And I had to speak out as a former Justice Department reporter

who knows quite well that for a president to intervene,

interfere, orchestrate with an ongoing criminal investigation or order an ongoing criminal investigation.

Certainly in every past administration is, you know, the different phrases come to mind.

Shattering of the norms, not something that you would expect.

And so I said, look, let's take a look at what's happening here. Let's not mince words.

President Trump despises Jim Comey. By the way, Democrats don't like him either. I'll get to that

in a second. And even though in his first term, he named a special counsel, John Durham, to investigate

all of this in going back to Russia Gate in 2016 and so forth, Durham didn't come up with anything

except charges against a low-level FBI lawyer. But this time, you know, Donald Trump doesn't hide it.

You don't have to rely on some secret leak.

He put out a memo.
