live podcast festival in London. We spoke before the events at the White House Correspondence

Dinner in Washington, which is why you won't hear us mention any of that.

Several of our BBC colleagues were there at the dinner and we're glad that everyone is safe.

For now, on with today's episode.

King Charles is visiting the United States this week to mark 250 years since America's independence from

Britain. But the visit comes at a particularly tense moment between the two countries.

And I'm not, by the way, I'm not happy with the UK either.

This is not Winston Churchill that we're dealing with.

We've never needed them.

We have never really asked anything of them.

You know, they'll say they send some troops to Afghanistan or this or that.

And they did.

They stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.

So in this moment, is it now, in fact, Britain that wants to declare independence from America?

America is no longer an ally. It is not underpinning NATO in any way, shape or form.

I'm not going to change my mind. I'm not going to yield. It is not in our national interest to join this war, and we will not do so.
