Summary

This week’s Flightless Bird is Live From Denver! Rob and David explore the sights and sounds of Denver, CO, presenting their findings to a very fun crowd at the beautiful Cervantes Ballroom. They are joined by four guests that each bring a fascinating aspect of Denver and Colorado to life: The CEO of a cryonics company who has 250 human bodies and heads on ice, the head a hearse club, an expert from the largest Ice Core story facility on the planet, and a professor deeply involved with reintroducing gray wolves to Colorado. Musician Matthew Logan Vasquez provides live music including his rendition of the Flightless Bird themesong, and Happy Cones, founded by New Zealander Hap Cameron, delivers some hokey pokey ice cream to Rob! Thanks to our audience for their wonderful questions. Hi, Rosabel. It's always nice to hear your voice. We're about to do our live show in Denver, Colorado, and I'm

0:22.9

just wondering if you know anything about Denver. Oh, I hate these questions. Denver. No, I don't

0:32.8

know anything about Denver. There's a dinosaur called Denver. Really? Denver the dinosaur. Is he from

0:39.6

Denver? I don't know. What was the dinosaur from, like a cartoon? I have no idea. I just like

0:46.1

have it as a phrase in my mind from the 90s. Is that enough? I am similar to you.

0:55.2

All I really know about Denver at this point is that it has that big blue giant horse at the airport that's an sculpture and installation.

1:03.4

And it famously fell over and killed the artist who made it.

1:08.1

No, really?

1:09.8

And you see it when you're flying in, like at night it has...

1:12.6

Oh, they kept it?

1:13.6

Glowing red eyes.

1:14.6

Yeah, it's still there, you can see it.

1:16.6

So they, like, they picked it up off the dead body and just like...

1:19.6

Yeah, I think it was in his workshop and it killed him, but they got it finished and they put it up.

1:25.6

And now when you fly in at night you can see it's got

1:28.7

they've almost played into it it's got glowing red eyes so it actually looks quite evil oh so it's

1:33.8

like haunted exactly okay it's funny because a lot of people have emailed in for suggestions of

1:40.3

topics for denver and a lot of them have talked about this big blue horse and we did an

1:46.5

episode about it ages ago but obviously no one listened to it including you because I've

1:51.2

explained all this before at length and a whole hour rambling on about it.

1:56.2

I said this was actually just a trick question to see if I listened to your podcast.
