In a special recording made for our podcast supporters and now shared in this episode,

we travel to the Arras Memorial to the Missing and we follow some of the stories

of the more than 35,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers who were commemorated here at Arras.

We're in northern France for this week's episode at the Arras Memorial to the Missing

that commemorates more than 35,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers who fell on the Arras

battlefields who have no known grave. And the audio that makes up the bulk of this episode

comes from a live stream, a live event that we did from the memorial last month. And these are

regular events that we have for supporters of the podcast to support it via Buy Me a Coffee

and Patreon. And we have a monthly podcast supporters evening.

And I've tried to do a few of those from the battlefields themselves.

Because I think it's quite important to do that for a podcast that is about the battlefields of the Great War.

Now, doing a live stream is fraught with kind of difficulties and problems.

And the audio for this one is kind of a bit up and down in places,

possibly because of the huge vault-like Portland stone walls of the Arras Memorial

that kind of drowned out our mobile signal as we were

broadcasting this live. And it gives it that edge of being a live audio. So it won't be perfect. It

won't be studio quality. And we're perfecting the ways that we're doing these kind of live recordings

all the time and learning lessons from them and using some quite cutting edge

up-to-date kit but sometimes doesn't always work well with the live nature of it.

But I think there's something quite important about recording on the ground itself.

And that's something that I want to continue to develop,

not just with podcast supporters evening,
