In 2005, a Bollywood-esque version of Pride and Prejudice made its way to St. Louis, Missouri,

where I was living at the time.

I had never seen a Bollywood movie before.

I was intrigued by the idea of seeing my first one as an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice

and was really excited that it was by the same director as a movie I loved, bend it like Beckham.

But then, the movie got panned.

The New York Times wrote that it was, quote,

right with cliché as anything ever turned out by Hollywood,

but with worse production values and a load of sanctimonious political correctness.

I didn't go and see the movie and forgot about my desire to watch Bollywood films for well over a decade.

I sat down to watch Pride and Prejudice with my family for the first time earlier this year,

almost 20 years after its release.

We had a great time.
