Welcome to the China Compass podcast live, well not really live for you, live for me, from

Hong Kong.

I am in a hotel near the Hong Kong International Airport.

I used to live in Hong Kong off and on way back in 2003, so it's nice to be home again,

just for a long extended layover. I had hoped to have

more time. My flight from L.A. to Hong Kong was delayed, and so I really only have time just to crash and

sleep and rest and to get a little bit of work done. I was hoping to hop on the bus from the Hong Kong

airport near the airport to Macau, which is about an hour,

hour and a half away by bus across the sea. The bus goes across the water, one of the longest

bridges slash tunnels. It's both at different points in the world, maybe the longest, and it crosses

about 60 miles. I think I forget how many miles exactly, but it's crazy. Used to be just boats across there. Now they got the bus and it crosses about 60 miles I think I forget how many miles exactly but it's

eight bucks each way I was going to go over to macau and spend a little time macau is even closer to

mainland China macau's right on the the border you can literally just walk up and down and you can hear

this you can hear noises from across the border in china you're right there there's a park in macao that you can

just see the train station across the border and hear the noises from inside the train

station and whatnot i was going to go hang out over there maybe record something over there

but again i don't have much time i got in got in a little later and i've got to leave tomorrow

from here to fly to Malaysia.
