That's a long time.

It was almost, well actually it was a little over three times the average in Texas.

Since 1845 in Texas became a state until the year 2000, the average tenure for a governor

in Texas was a little less than four years. We had two year terms prior

to 73. Did you ever dream you would do this? No, I never dreamed that I would be the governor,

much less be the governor for 14 years. I grew up on a dry land cotton farm. I grew up in

a house didn't have running water. And the idea that a boy born in 1950 would end up

being the governor of the state of Texas, the child of two tenant farmers is a bit far-fetched but with that said it's also

proof that America anything's possible and we need to keep that faith in this country. The middle
