1932 and I don't want our listeners to think we're stuck in nostalgia mode.

examining these larger than life figures with a critical eye placing them in context with issues we're grappling with today.

Absolutely, Craig, and Lisa Cortez's film Little Richard I am everything does just that

it's a complicated portrait of an artist who did so much to bring gay culture into the

mainstream but went back and forth in accepting his own sexuality,

made some of the greatest rock and roll ever recorded in the process.

I think that this documentary does a wonderful job showing Richard's complex relationship with the music, sexuality, and faith.

And from the start of our conversation, Cortez gave Richard all the credit.

It's Little Richard, you know that's he is the gift that keeps on giving as a man who struggled between the sacred and the profane as someone who's a transgressive figure.
