If you're listening to Away with Words, the show about language and how we use it, I'm Grant Barrett.

And I'm Martha Barnett. I've always been

0:21.7

a voracious reader, but recently I find myself drawn to one genre in particular, and that's poetry.

0:28.6

And it sort of crept up on me. I just noticed the other day that every single book on my nightstand

0:33.5

was poetry, like Natasha Trethaway and Katie Ford and Billy Collins, Audrey and Rich, and Kay Ryan.

And so much of hip-hop really is poetic, isn't it?

1:26.2

It is poetic.

1:49.4

right? No, I mean, we all get older and happens. May you continue to grow older. And the thing with

1:54.8

hip hoppet tends to be a more emotional, have a higher impact. It's not very subtle, right? And this reminds me, this is going to sound like a tangent for a second.
