I'm Gruchin Rubin and this is a little happier.

Back when I was in college, when I was a junior or senior, I had lunch with a friend and she says

something that I have never forgotten. Because you know how in college, you're always getting

crushes on different people. You know, it's like this person and then that person and as you move

through your day, it's a big factor. And so she was saying to me, you know, sort of meditatively,

she said, you know what I've learned? Is that it's always better to have a crush on two people,

not just one. And I thought, hmm, why is that? And she said, well, you know, when you have a

crush on just one person, it matters too much. It completely determines your day. What happened,

what did he say? How did it go? What's the deal? But then if you have a crush on two people,

it's like, ah, if it's not going so well with one guy, then you can think about the other guy

and maybe something's going well and something's not so well. And it just keeps you from like getting

so crazy. And I've thought about this a lot and it really, it comes up in a lot of different

situations. For instance, my sister and I often talk about this at work. It's nice to have two

projects going on, to have two things that you care about because when there's more than one

possibility to weigh, when there's more than one thing to think about, it keeps you from getting

too crazy. You don't get so over invested in one outcome. It's just nice to have a crush on more
