Now, this story has always been told to me as if it were fact, as if it actually happened.

But I suspect that it's actually aprocrative, but that doesn't really matter because the point is the same.

The story goes that a big publisher decided to hire a fancy management consulting firm to come in and analyze their business

and tell them how to make more money. So the firm comes in, they do a top to bottom study of the publisher's business.

They investigate, they analyze, they interview, they write a big report.

The senior people at the publishing house and the management consulting team sit down for a big meeting

where the result of this study will be revealed.

With the dramatic flourish, the management consultants announce the way for your work to be done.

The way for your publishing house to make more profits is to publish more best sellers.
