As a child growing up in Kansas City, I loved to listen to languages other than English, but I rarely had the chance—so I remind myself to feel grateful for hearing so many languages here in New York City. Nevertheless, I find it challenging to cultivate a grateful frame of mind.

It's all too easy to begin to take aspects of my life for granted

So I really make an effort to remind myself of all the things I have to be grateful for.
