I'm Warren Smith and today you'll be listening in on my conversation with the author of an

important new book that does nothing less than attempt to make sense from a biblical point

of view of all of modern life and culture.

The book is called Biblical Critical Theory and my guest today, Christopher Wadkin.

If you really, really want wisdom, you need to be serious enough to look for it in the

place that you'd least think of finding it, which is the foolishness of a condemned criminal

hanging up and dying on a cross because if you do look there, you're going to find the

fullness of wisdom, a deeper wisdom than you ever expected.

The phrase critical theory is one that is sure to generate strong and usually negative opinions

in the evangelical world.

Most critics of critical theory note little about the historical and philosophical underpinnings

of the movement.

Not so, my guest today, Christopher Wadkin.

He has a PhD from the University of Cambridge and he's associate professor of French studies

at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, one of the largest research institutions

in that country.

He's also a deeply committed Christian with a passion for speaking to the postmodern

mind with a dynamic voice.

We must engage the ideas that are undermining Christianity from a position of strength,

he believes.

That means we must deeply understand those ideas, but we must not accept the categories

and framework presented by those ideas in the critical theory movement.
