One of my favorite things when we give our lecture about what we don't know about the

universe is the questions we get from people in the audience.

The best questions always come from the youngest audience members.

I remember one time I gave a talk about liquid nitrogen in front of elementary school kids

and some kid asked me the question.

He said, if lightsabers were real, would they be made of liquid nitrogen?

I didn't even know how to answer that question.

I was totally stumped by a six-year-old.

Wait, wait, wait.

Star Wars is not real.

Lightsabers are fictional or hey, fictional, yes.

So you need to find some other defense against the invading or um...

System part.

So the questions are a fantastic way to understand, have I really communicated anything?

Have you really understood what I'm doing?

So that's why I love the live aspect of a presentation because you get that feedback

from the audience.

They're getting it.

They're asking follow-up questions or they're totally confused and they're asking you questions

that seem to make no sense.
