Close your eyes and imagine you're standing in a giant soccer stadium.

The crowd is cheering, thousands of voices blending into one powerful sound.

Bright lights shine down onto a green field.

A small player receives the ball at his feet.

He moves quickly, almost like the ball is tied to him with an invisible string.

He slips past defenders, turns smoothly, and sends the ball into the goal. The crowd explodes with excitement. That player is Lionel Messi, one of the greatest soccer players in history. Lionel Andres

Messi was born on June 24th, 1987 in Rosario,

Argentina. Rosario is a busy city where soccer is more than a sport. It is part of everyday life.

Children play in streets, parks, and fields wherever they can find space. Messy grew up in a close family that loved soccer.

His father worked at a factory and coached a local youth team, and young Lionel often followed him to practices.

From a very young age, Messi showed unusual talent.

He was small, quiet, and shy. But when he had a soccer ball, everything

changed. He could dribble quickly, control the ball with ease, and see plays before they happened.

Coaches noticed that he played with creativity and joy. His grandmother Celia was one of his

biggest supporters. She encouraged him to keep playing and often took him to games.

Later in life, Messi said many of his goals were dedicated to her memory.

When Messi was about 10 years old, doctors discovered he had a growth hormone condition that slowed his physical development.
