Summary
Twenty-five years since her last solo album Linda Perry is back and swinging with a super vulnerable documentary and album, ‘Let It Die Here,’ a record that sees her parse her complicated relationship with her mother and her ultimate passing. She’s confronting her own mortality too, not to mention how she was raised and who she’s continuing to become.
We get into all of this: she talks about being the sole songwriter of 4 Non Blondes monster hit “What’s Up,” the band’s implosion soon after and why, after all these years they’re back together and with brand new material slated for 2027 release.
And of course we get into her storied songwriting career: ‘Beautiful’ by Christina Aguilera, ‘Get the Party Started’ by Pink, to name just two, and how she discovered James Blunt and signed him to her label after all the majors had passed on him.
As an artist she’s very much of the Martha Graham school of thought — keep the channel open — and lives her life accordingly. We also discuss the state of the music industry, the beauty in imperfection, her control freak tendencies, and so much more.

| 1:26.8 | Those are the tracks that people are, |
| 1:31.1 | you know, not focusing on. And those album tracks are what really supports an album. You know, |
| 1:38.0 | you can get the, well, I guess nowadays people are just streaming. So, but I come from that |
| 1:42.8 | mentality of like, in order to have a great album, you need great album tracks, not just a great song. Can you explain to me this? One, we live in a world of, like, the album records, the things in between, they're kind of the lost art today. Yeah. And they do. There's just no money in it, right? Like, it's just become a different sort of game. |
| 2:02.9 | But can you explain to me how your process works when you're coming in? |
