Monday morning, 1992, Cancun, Mexico.

The air was hot and heavy.

Tourists boarded crowded boats.

Hotel workers hurried into kitchens, and one man was driving his daughter to school, his knuckles white, gripping the steering wheel.

But he wasn't taking her to class. He was heading straight to the principal's office, the office of a priest named Fernando Martinez,

a man loved by the community, the same priest who had given his little girl her first communion not long ago.

The car pulled up to Cumbres Cancun, a school run by the legionaries.

The man walked through the halls, straight to the office.

He opened the door and, without a word, started hitting the priest, fist after fist.

Someone from the administration had to drag her dad away.

She remembers the image of the priest dropping to his knees, kissing her dad's shoes, begging for

forgiveness, saying Analu had misunderstood that she had imagined it all, swearing he had done nothing wrong,

but her dad wasn't buying it.
