Well, hello everybody. Welcome to Friday. It's 4 o'clock in New York, like a high-speed collision,

0:12.8

a pair of exceedingly consequential stories breaking this afternoon and intersecting

0:17.8

in real time. At the center of today's convergence and emerging tension, one between former vice

0:24.0

president Mike Pence and the United States Department of Justice, on one hand. This morning,

0:29.6

we learned the FBI searched Pence's home in Indiana, looking for any classified documents that

0:34.7

might still be on the premises. We understand an additional classified document was discovered

0:39.6

and removed, and that this was a so-called consent search, which means it's one that was agreed to by

0:45.6

both sides without the need for a search warrant issued in advance. But Donald Trump's vice president

1:19.3

Department relating to Donald Trump's efforts to hold on to power in the aftermath of the 2020

1:25.5

election. Remember, Mike Pence never spoke to the January 6th committee. The time and again,

1:31.0

the New York Times has reported that Pence views the Justice Department's investigation

1:35.7

as fundamentally different from the now complete House inquiry. But thanks to the 1-6th committee

1:41.2

and their exhaustive interviews with witnesses, we have a pretty decent idea of what Pence might say.

1:47.3

For instance, on the topic, the vice president's power. Listen to what his White House lawyer Greg Jacob

1:53.5

told the committee. What was Vice President Pence's reaction when you showed him the email

2:00.5

where Dr. Eastman, after the attack on the Capitol, still asked that the vice president delay

2:06.2

certification and send it back to the States. He said, that's rubber room stuff.
