At the age of 16, my goal was simple. Live cheap, climb heaps, work as little as possible.

When you're young, this notion comes easy. Mom and dad buy the groceries and they pay

the rent. Your responsibilities are few and far between. Yet, inevitably, you gain cell phone

bills, car payments, medical bills, and girlfriends who don't consider a night out on the town

bivving in the Walmart parking lot. As rent checks fly out the door each month, the

time spent doing the things we love begins to dwindle at an alarming rate.

Life is interfered with my climbing on occasion, but I've mostly kept a promise to the teenage

version of myself and somehow managed to climb nearly 200 days a year for over 15 years.

Age hasn't changed my goals one bit. In fact, the passing of time has brought a certain

level of freedom. I tend to dream bigger, make more definitive plans, and when I do set

aside the time for my passions, the trips are grand and rewarding.

While living the dream is awesome, I have made sacrifices in other areas of my life to

allow me the freedom I desire. There are hundreds of small things one needs to forfeit in order

to spend more time in the outdoors. Most are easy to dispose of, but some, like seldom
