I mean, how old is midwifery? Hundreds of thousands of years, probably.

I'd never even seen a birth in water in 1990.

Running in trying to get in there to catch this baby.

I've tripped over the bag and I dropped the placenta all over their cream carpet.

Vaginal triplets in a war zone and we all survived quite a thing, yeah.

Introducing Life of a Midwife, a new mini-series from Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

Every Thursday, we'll hear from midwives past and present as they share the stories that shaped their lives and careers.

Because I had my children, I already knew how it's like to receive it at the other end.

The women, their same position, they're homeless, penniless, husband had left them and they think

is the end of the world. And I said to them, this time will pass. I hope to take her leggings

down, the baby's head was out.

There's just this little face looking at me.

That first birth as a midwife,

I was so incredibly nervous,

and I always think back.

I hope they realise what a monumental thing that was for me too.
