Lesson learned from getting my bike stolen in Buenos Aires.

So I was supposed to have this rental bike for one day and it turned out to be only half a day because basically in broad daylight in front of my hotel, the bike got stolen. And this is normally not a

positive development, but it actually led to the best travel day I've ever

had in my life. Because the next morning day I've ever had in my life.

Because the next morning when I was supposed to return the bike,

I had three options.

One, I could have gotten angry and spent all this time

going down to the police station and filing a police report and hoping

that my credit card would then reimburse me because I have a police report and then reimburse

me for the lost bike fee and it probably would have taken me at least half a day to a

full day to do that. Two I could have gotten pissed off going in the bike shop

tried to negotiate with a guy tried to say like this isn't my fault, this bike got stolen,

this lock was crappy obviously, things like that.

Or option three, I could just decide to release it, release the anger, any anger or animosity I had towards the person who stole my bike,

release the $150 he was going to charge me and just say, okay, it's $150.

I'm done with it and I could enjoy my day. Now, Old Travis would have done a combination of one and two.

Options one and two. Got angry, spent time, wasted time, tried to get a police report,

tried to get reimbursed, all that kind of stuff.

But in this time I said, let's, you know what that's like, that's not cool.

That's not fun for anyone.

So let's try to do option three and just release the emotions around this.

And I did that. So in the morning I woke up I decided I'm not going to the police station.
