Summary

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds." James 1:2

Alice Churnock, from our Vestavia, Alabama community group, shares her story of suffering from a bleeding disorder for thirty years, which stamped shame and embarrassment on her soul and ultimately led her to intense anger with God as the complications from her disorder led her to difficulties having children.

However, after experiencing an unexpected and abrupt miscarriage, God met Alice, as only a loving and good Father can, and brought her to a deeper faith and ultimately a healed body.  This story will encourage you to know that God can handle your anger and questions, but you must also be ready to listen for His answers.

IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN:

- God uses pain and trauma to grow your faith more than He uses the blessings He has given you - the blessings are often a byproduct of the pain.

- God is relational, and in a relationship, there is speaking AND listening by BOTH parties.

- Joy is an inner attitude regardless of your circumstances.

Today's storyteller is Alice Chernot from our Vestavia gathering right here in Birmingham.

And, you know, this may be one of the most uniquely told stories we have ever had.

And Katie, I think you're going to talk about this, but that's because Alice is a therapist.

And so she tells her

story from two different perspectives. I was fascinated. I know today we get to hear a story from

1:16.8

someone who listens to stories for a living. And she references that as well. Alice has been a

counselor for 20 years. And I'm sure for most of her clients, they probably do not know this

1:27.3

story about her. And that's one of the reasons why I love storyteller so much is because it does break down walls and build community with authentic, raw, real, vulnerable stories. Alice shares her story really of living with a bleeding disorder for 30 years and how that disorder not only led to shame and embarrassment, but also

struggles with infertility and then ultimately just the devastation of a miscarriage. And like

our past two storytellers, God really met Alice in his word through the story of Job, as you're
