Kevin Sullen and I have just been discussing the new appointment of Grant Shaps,

a man who has had so many jobs in the cabinet, I think he's done more of them than he's not done.

He's had ministerial roles all over the place. His most recent one was Energy and Net Zero department.

He's now going to run the Department of Defense, which you have to say is rather a big job

and one which needs to be done by somebody with rather big shoes. And I'm not sure Grant Shaps is entirely the man.

In choosing a new Defence Secretary, Rishi Sunak had his pick of people

who know what they're talking about.

Instead he appoints someone with no relevant background,

casually foolish, verging on irresponsible. Well, we've got a lot of history with Grant Shaps. We've got a lot of things we can talk

about. We've got a lot of things that we know that he's said in the past. And one of the

reasons for his continued success as a cabinet minister can only be put down to the fact that

he does what he's told. It can only be put down to the fact that he's the bloat you send in if you want to try and sort out a department because you know that he will not say no to the boss you know that he will not say

boo to a goose but he will continually appear on television and continually do interviews about how

great everything is and how well he is doing as i said to kevin very famously he once said to me
