Uh, Colony Ridge, Plum Grove, Taranos, it's known by multiple different names, is getting a lot of attention.

We get the news yesterday that the governor says whatever it takes to deal with Colony Ridge when asked if he would put it on the special session agenda in a few weeks.

Are you surprised by all of this attention to Colony Ridge because you've been making a lot of arrests there for a while and I'm guessing you saw what was going on and have tried to explain it to people now all of a sudden everyone's paying attention.

Yes sir, I happened to appear before Senate subcommittee earlier this year and explain the problems and Governor Abbott did respond at that time.

I don't think that anybody knew how great it was because it responded with a little. I guess you could say we had some reporter reported that we had a no-go zone which was not true.

We have actually 10 deputies assigned to only work that subdivision and we have adjusted what we call a rover from another one.

So we have 11 deputies at work that now I think if you said not enough to go it would be accurate but it is a big it is a big problem that I don't think anybody was prepared to handle including the liberty kind of sheriff's office.

How many deputies do you have total.

Counting sergeants and corporals 50 and how many are on patrol or on duty at any given time.

Well that's a good question. I have kind of broke that out if you know we're talking about if if at one time in Liberty County the most all ever have on duty 13.

Based on the population that's one deputy for every 7,902 people but the problem that we have is that we have those 10 deputies assigned to the subdivision and defining what the population is.

Some people say 50 some people say 75,000 50,000 75,000 if you want to base it on the 50,000 I'm going to have the most that I have at one time is 3 deputies and that's those subdivisions.

So I've got one deputy for every 16,700 people based on the 50,000 if it's 75,000 I've got one deputy for every 25,000 people when you say the subdivision you're talking about Plum Grove or Colony.

Do you call it Plum Grove or yeah I call it Colony Ridge Plum Grove actually is an incorporated city that is borders is the subdivisions of Colony Ridge.

So Plum Grove is a city a lot of people refer to it as Plum Grove but it's not Plum Grove Plum Grove's an incorporated city they have a city police department the subdivisions surround from Grove.

And when you say you've got three I want to make sure I understand when you say the subdivision when you say you've got did I understand you've got three dedicated to that subdivision at any given time.

At any oh I'm sorry there are 10 dedicated only to that subdivision but because we have four shifts to cover at 24 seven the most that I could ever have out of deputies is three because all 10 would never be out at the same time.

And is that a private contract or that is a decision as to that's a hotspot.

No well that is a contract I guess you can call it because the actually the homeowners association for Colony Ridge pays for those 10 deputies they also pay for two precinct six deputy constables to all work out in the subdivisions full time.

So they got Kelly deputy cost got 12 but now the governor has helped us out because he has sent we now have four troopers that work that area two per shift six a into six p.m.
