Hello, welcome back to My Book of Mormon podcast. I'm Marie Kent.

Thrilling adventure, everyone. It's letter 8 from Oliver Cowdy to his buddy, his pal,

W. Dubby-Daboo Phelps, and the story is happening today. The last week, Prophet of God,

Joseph Smith, wakes up from a sleepless night of talking with the angel Maroni. So Joseph drops his work,

and he walks a little ways off to a place called the Hill Camorra. Now, if you were raised in the

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is not me, then you would recall a little story

from the book of Mormon. There's this guy, you know, name of Mormon, and he has a box.

He edges out the history of the Nephite nation and their ongoing battle against the Lamanites,

and then buries it in a box, in this hill, which if you believe the Book of Mormon is true,

then approximately 230,000 people were killed right there on the Hill Camorra, and then a good long

while later, fellow by the name of Joseph Smith. He digs them up, takes them out of the box, and he uses

those golden plates to translate the Book of Mormon into English. Now, I personally don't believe that

happened. And honestly, I don't care that I don't believe because I think it's a fascinating story.

Because regardless of truth versus lies or PR spin or, you know, just fanciful story,

all of this is part of American history.

And as an American, I care a lot.

And I tell you what, Oliver Cowdery, my historical ex-boyfriend, can write one heck of a story.

I know, I know.

I, yes, yes, I broke up with him on account of his horrific racist tendencies.

What am I doing still reading his 1835 version of a blog?
