Hello, everyone. It's Marie Kent, and this is the My Book of Mormon podcast. I'm working my way

through letters written by Oliver Cowdery to his co-worker slash fellow believer, W.W. Phelps.

Last week was basically just a really long introduction, and this week is letter two, which is all about

apostasy and restoration. And don't know about you,

but I am psyched to learn all about the founding of the one true church and how absolutely

ridiculous it is to oppose the works of God Almighty. I am here for the truth. But you know

about that? So truth. What exactly is the truth here? Nothing I'm reading today

is official canon in the Utah Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or really anywhere else.

But from late 1834 to mid-1836, kind of 38, it sort of was. Put yourself in my shoes only about three years ago.

Bryce made some offhand comment about the letters I'm now reading to all you find people,

and I did the traditional thing of ordering a hard copy version for myself off of Amazon.

I glanced through a couple pages randomly in the middle, you know,

saw that they were the same as what I was seeing online, and aces. I have a hard copy, all as well. But, well, shout out to

listener James, who helpfully pointed out that, hey, you skipped a paragraph last week. And they were

absolutely right. Just before the closing of letter one, my hard copy is missing the

following. Quote, today the church in this place assembled and were addressed on the great,

the important subject of salvation by brother Jared Carter followed by brother Sidney Rigdon.

The cheerful truths ably and eloquently advanced by these brethren were like apples of gold

in baskets of silver.

The saints listened with attention after which bread was broken, and we'd offered another

memorial to our Lord that we remembered him."
