So today, we're going to talk about why Trump is talking about Columbus Day.

Trump made a truly weird statement about Columbus Day,

and it's raised the question of why he's leaning into the bizarre culture war stuff again.

The answer is simple. This is what Trump posted

to social media. Quote, I'm bringing Columbus Day back from the ashes. The Democrats did everything

possible to destroy Christopher Columbus, his reputation, and all of the Italians that love him so much.

They tore down his statues and put up nothing but woke, or even worse, nothing at all. Well, you'll be happy to know Christopher is going to make

a major comeback. I am hereby reinstating Columbus Day under the same rules, dates, and locations, as it has had for all of the many decades before.

So, anybody who understands anything about the holiday or can remember last year is totally confused.

First, Columbus Day is a federal holiday.

President Johnson signed legislation in 1968. It would literally take an act of Congress to end it.

Second, Columbus Day wasn't in the ashes. Biden celebrated it last year.

The push to question Christopher Columbus isn't new. It isn't woke. It's an old debate,

and not just on the fringe. Back in 2002, it was already in the mainstream when the debate played

out on the TV show The Sopranos. There is also a push to celebrate Indigenous People's Day.

This again is not new.

And it's worth noting the debate over Columbus was part of the discussion.
