Well, howdy there, Internet people? It's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Trump's unusual recess appointment request.

Over the weekend, Trump made an unusual demand, posting, quote,

Any Republican senator seeking the coveted leadership position in the United States Senate must

agree to recess appointments in the Senate, without which we will not be able to get people

confirmed in a timely manner. So, recess appointments are appointments of key personnel

made by the President to positions

like his cabinet during a congressional recess.

The Constitution requires the President to seek the Senate's advice and consent for appointments.

However, recess appointments are authorized in some situations by the Constitution.

There are limitations to their use, and we'll come back to that. Shortly after, Trump's

demand all three senators hoping to become the new Senate majority leader in some way

said they agree with him.

But here's the thing. Republicans have the majority. Trump should have no trouble getting his

appointments through confirmation, especially his initial cabinet picks. We're left with a few options.

One, Trump forgot his party has the majority.

Two, it's simply a loyalty test to make sure the incoming Senate majority leader will follow his lead.

Three, he's planning on picks so bad that he thinks even Republicans

will oppose them. Four, he just doesn't want to put up with the confirmation process. Five, he's

trying to create a scenario where he can claim victory for the mundane.

This might be one of those things that create a lot of Democratic pearl clutching,

because it's a departure from the norms. Maybe it shouldn't be something to get your blood pressure
