Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about Trump

versus Chief Justice Roberts, impeachment edition. For quite some time, Trump allies have been calling

for the impeachment of various judges who ruled against him. Then Trump himself issued the same call about a judge, saying,

quote, this judge, like many of the crooked judges, I'm forced to appear before, should be impeached.

Chief Justice Roberts took the exceedingly rare step of publicly rebuking Trump in a statement

that said, quote, for more than two centuries,

it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning

a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose. The short version

here is that Justice Roberts is trying to remind everyone of the basics of the Constitution and elementary school civics.

The purpose of the separate branches is to provide a check on each other.

Having rulings coming from the judiciary that go against the executive branch or the legislative branch isn't grounds for impeachment.

It shouldn't be condemned. It should be expected and encouraged if you support the Constitution.

If a ruling is bad, it goes to the appellate courts and gets sorted out there.

Historically, impeachment of judges is for things like taking bribes, tax evasion, or perjury.

Representative Brandon Gill of Texas posted to social media saying he introduced articles of impeachment

shortly after Justice Roberts issued his statement.

I think that brings the total to four judges facing resolutions about impeachment.

Any move of the sort would end up before the Supreme Court, and it seems pretty clear where

Roberts stands on the issue.

It's worth reminding everyone that Roberts is one of the conservative justices.
