So today, we're going to talk about Trump saying Biden's pardons are void.

So Trump made some really interesting and unique claims about pardons Biden issued late in his term.

We'll run through the claims real quick.

Trump posted to social media saying the ped, quote, are hereby declared void, vacant, and of no further force or effect,

because of the fact that they were done by Autopin. So, an Autopin is something that mechanically

reproduces a signature. Presidents using an Autopin is something that mechanically reproduces a signature.

Presidents using an auto pen goes back way further than you might imagine.

There's the obvious examples from recent history of president signing official documents that way.

But again, the use goes back way further than you might imagine.

Thomas Jefferson made liberal use of a polygraph.

Obviously, the term had a different meaning back then.

It was a device that copied what he was writing and signing.

He referred to it as, quote,

The finest invention of the present age.

He obtained his first one in 1804.

For those a little rusty, that's right in the middle of his term as president.

He owned a number of them, and there are two known examples that still survive to this day.

Okay, so there's long historical precedent of presidents

using devices like this. But undoubtedly, people will say every previous case was somehow different.

So, let's just cut to the constitutional chase. There is nothing in the Constitution requiring a presidential pardon to be written,

much less signed in a certain way.
