Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bill again. So today, we're going to talk about

Magaverse statements, France, and Canada. We can't stop every time somebody in the

Magaverse says something a historical or something that is obviously just something to fire

up their base. We wouldn't get anything else done.

But sometimes there are comments that are worth exploring a little bit further. Starting off,

the Trump administration felt the need to respond to a French officials joke about wanting

the Statue of Liberty back. Quote, my advice to that unnamed low-level French politician

would be to remind them that it's only because of the United States of America, that the French

are not speaking German right now. So they should be very grateful to our great country. I mean, that makes sense.

Military support should make one country grateful to another.

They should be really thankful we supplied them with 63 warships, 12,000 soldiers, and

tens of thousands of sailors, and even went so far as to use front corporations to get them

needed supplies like powder.

Oh, wait, that was their support to us during the revolution, and one of the reasons we

aren't part of the Commonwealth.

Jokes aside, there's a common misconception about World War II and American involvement.

It wasn't an altruistic adventure. Our involvement in helping to free France? Again, I just had

to put out a video clarifying that we didn't do that on our own. Anyway, we didn't do that as a favor.

We did it because if the Germans were successful in

establishing Fortress Europe, they could have ramped up industrial production and alongside

the Japanese very well might have posed a threat to the United States directly.

It's also the reason maybe we aren't speaking German. The lesson from World War II is that isolationism is bad and that, yes, historical allies
