Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Bell again.

So today, we're going to talk about Trump attacking GOP senators, Holly and Grassley.

Trump is having more and more trouble keeping Republican senators in line.

He started lashing out more directly and publicly. This is something that normally

doesn't happen until after the midterms of a president's second term, as they become more and more

of a lame duck and lose political capital. Seeing it early is counterintuitive because Trump still seems to hold a large amount of sway over his base and the party as a whole.

It's possible that Trump is just more sensitive than previous presidents, so we're just noticing it earlier because he's overreacting to perceived slights that previous presidents would

have ignored. Trump first went after Senator Grassley over the blue-slip process in the Senate.

It's an old tradition that basically gives senators veto power on the appointments of judges

in their home state.

It's a bipartisan custom that has been a pretty non-controversial thing for about 100 years or so.

Of course, it's an American tradition, so Trump is opposed to it.

Trump, in a lengthy and kind of rambling social media

post, seemed to imply Grassley was weak, and Democrats were laughing at him for upholding a

senatorial courtesy that is rarely broken. He called out the senator by name, saying, quote, Chuck Grassley, who I got reelected

to the U.S. Senate when he was downed by a lot in the great state of Iowa, could solve this

blue slip problem we are having with respect to the appointment of highly qualified judges

and U.S. attorneys, with a mere flick of the pen.

Trump got Grassley re-elected. That's funny. He was first elected to Congress when Ford was president

and has been there ever since. But sure, Trump got him elected. Grassley doesn't seem to care what

Trump thinks. His spokesperson said, quote, Chairman Grassley has already successfully moved

U.S. attorneys through committee who have received blue slips from Democrats, including Senators Warner and Kane of Virginia and
