So today, we're going to talk about why China isn't in a hurry for a Trump deal.

Over the last couple of days, Trump has been trying to walk away from his disastrous trade war.

He's refused to say he would play hardball with China.

He said tariffs on China would be cut in half.

The Treasury Secretary is talking about de-escalation.

The administration is talking like they're on the verge of a deal.

Reality check.

Talks haven't even started.

So that brings us to this question question from a Republican viewer who is a

lukewarm supporter of Trump. Quote, Trump seems to be completely surrendering to China on his tariffs.

Why is China just ignoring his overtures and saying their door is open, but still turning away Boeing's planes.

The answer to this is pretty simple. As every economist said, the tariffs will hurt the U.S.

more than anyone else. Trump doesn't have the cards. Start there. Except that as fact now that it has been clearly demonstrated

in everything from the global response to GDP forecasts to market reactions, to layoffs in the U.S.

The tariffs hurt the U.S. way more than China. Next, accept that foreign policy is not entirely about money. What is money?

Power coupons. Economic power is a means to an end. Foreign policy is not about quick deals to make a buck.

It's about long-term strategy. Quick deals to make a buck is running the government like a

business. The absolutely dismal state of things after attempting to run the government like a business

for a few months should forever get rid of that talking point. It won't, but it should. Now accept that

the U.S. and China are in a near-peer contest.

Both countries vying for more power.
