Well, howdy there, Internet people, it's Bell again. So today, we're going to talk about the Trump shutdown math problem.

The Republican majorities in the House and the Senate sent the country into a government shutdown again.

This is the first shutdown since, well, the last time Trump was in office. So now that the

shutdown is underway, the parties are lining up to make their case to the American people.

The Democratic Party is saying it's about the enhanced ACA premium tax credits and preserving

health care insurance rates for the more than 22 million people who use them.

It's a simple pitch.

Republicans passed tax cuts for the wealthy and left the working class out in the cold.

The Republican pitch is a little different. They're saying Democrats are shutting down the

government to give health care to illegals. Even Republicans who pay attention have questions.

The tax credits in question are used by 22 million people. If what Republicans are saying is

true, it would be that the population of, quote, illegals,

increased by 9 million people since Trump took office.

About a million per month.

Estimates put the number of undocumented people in the U.S. around 13 million when Trump took over.

But 22 million people use the credits in question.

It's math. Either they're not telling their base the truth about what Democrats are asking for,

or Trump's policies increase the number of those unlawfully present in the U.S. by about 9 million

people.

This is compounded by the fact that many of the other programs in question explicitly barred

those without papers from using them. Look, let's be clear. Trump's policies didn't almost double

the population of undocumented people.
