So today, we're going to talk about the U.S. Senate, Republican leadership after McConnell,

and something Americans should be ready for.

If the Republicans win control of the Senate, the new Senate Majority Leader will not be Senator McConnell.

McConnell has been a Republican leader forever. The new Senate Majority Leader will not be Senator McConnell.

Therefore, the Republican Party in the Senate was less susceptible to Trump's influence.

However, with McConnell leaving, there will be a new leader.

Right now, there's a three-way race within the Republican Party for the leadership slot. The leading contenders are Rick Scott, John Thune,

and John Cornyn. None of these are particularly great options from a progressive standpoint.

All of these senators have thrown their weight behind Trump

to some degree. That's something that Americans need to remember as they cast their votes.

McConnell was a Republican, a conservative, a far-right Republican even, but he wasn't a Trumpist.

In fact, there are tons of quotes showing how much McConnell disliked Trump on a personal level and how much he believed Trump

hurt the Republican Party, which is what McConnell truly cared about. While McConnell publicly

held the party line a lot, and there's no dismissing that,

privately, he was known to have attempted to curtail Trump and MAGA's worst instincts. In recent

budget tantrums, it was McConnell that applied the pressure necessary to keep the government open.

With him gone, and those more aligned

with Trump in leadership positions? People who might be more susceptible and easily influenced

because they don't have as a secure position as McConnell? The Senate won't act as the minor
